(Scroll down for video) An elderly man was punched in the face by a young man in an unprovoked attack, police in New York said.
The New York Police Department said that the suspect punched 72-year-old Donald Lathrom, in the head in a random attack in the West Village.
Lathrom is currently in the hospital with a large blood clot in the head and severe facial bruising. The victim said that he was returning home after a day at the park on Monday, ready to relax in his apartment.
Lathrom said that he saw the young man standing on the sidewalk while walking down Jane Street around 5:30 p.m., but did not pay any attention to him.
Suddenly, he felt something hitting the left side of his face. Video surveillance of the scene shows the attacker running down the street after punching Lathrom.
Lathrom was taken to the hospital with cuts and headaches, and doctors are monitoring the large blood clot in his head. Lathrom said that he wants the attackers captured so that no one else will get hurt.
Police are looking for the suspect, but so far, no arrests have been made.
