(Scroll down for video) A lesbian woman was fired from her job for becoming pregnant without being married.

Shaela Evenson was a great teacher at a Montana Catholic school for the past 10 years.

However, she was fired when school officials realized that she was pregnant without being married. Evenson and her partner, Marilyn Tobin, recently welcomed their baby boy.

Evenson taught literature and physical education at Butte Central Catholic Schools for the sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes before she was fired.

Now, she filed a discrimination lawsuit against the school.
The Catholic Diocese of Helena, which fired Evenson for being unmarried and pregnant, said that she violated her contract.

Superintendent Patrick Haggarty said that Evenson had “made a willful decision to violate the terms of her contract,” which requires her to respect the moral and religious teachings of the Catholic Church in both her professional and personal life.

He also said that the policies of the Montana Catholic Schools are described in a 45 page manual, which states that “Catholic school employees will live a lifestyle compatible with catholic moral values.”

However, it is very unlikely that these policies and the contract will stand in a court of law.

A similar case went to a federal jury in Cincinnati, Ohio. Catholic school teacher Christa Dias, was single and used artificial insemination to get pregnant. She was fired by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

In that case, a jury found that she had been discriminated against and Dias was awarded $170,000. Now, Evenson has hired the same law firm that represented Dias.
