A young child was left inside her mother’s car overnight while her mother was at a hospital.
The 2-year-old girl was left in the car overnight, in front of a sports bar in Connecticut, while her mother spent the night in the hospital because she was intoxicated, police said.
Police arrested 22-year-old James Kelsey of Bristol, after learning that her daughter was in the car while she went out to drink at a bar.
Police were called to the City Sports Grille on Farmington Avenue in Bristol at about 12:00 a.m. on Friday, when the woman was found sleeping at the bar.
Officers found the woman to be “intoxicated and incapacitated,” according to police. Kelsey was taken to the hospital for treatment.
When she awoke about 5:20 a.m., Kelsey asked hospital staff where her baby was, so the hospital contacted police.
Police went to the bar and found the child sleeping in her mother’s car in the parking lot of the bar. The baby was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, and is said to be in good condition.
The child remains in the hospital until the Department of Children and Families representatives look into the incident.
Police charged Kelsey with risk of injury and leaving a child unattended in a vehicle. The mother was released after posting $50,000 bond.
