A Chicago, Illinois, police officer was arrested for using his niece as a slave.

The Grant Park police lieutenant allowed his niece to live with him in order to “straighten her out.”

However, once she moved in, the lieutenant began having sex with her on a daily basis. She was also forced to cook his meals, wash his clothes and shop for him.

The teenager finally revealed her situation after a failed suicide attempt, said Assistant State Attorney Peter Wilkes.

45-year-old Stephen Nardi, was arrested by the Illinois State Police and fired from his job with the Grant Park Police Department.

Nardi also took his niece shopping for lingerie and shoes, and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the sex abuse, Wilkes said.

Nardi, who forbade his niece to have friends of her own, is also accused of grabbing the girl by her arm and firing a warning shot in the air as a warning.

Nardi faces charges of criminal sexual assault and sexual relationships within his own family. Additional charges are pending.

Defense attorney Eugene Fimbianti, said that Nardi has no criminal record and an impeccable record as a police officer.

He also said that Nardi suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after his partner was shot and killed in Kankakee.

The judge to set his bail at $250,000. His firearm’s license has been revoked and all of his weapons were seized.
