Welcome to married life.

A man was arrested for beating his wife the night of their wedding.

26-year-old Jeffrey Schuette of Wisconsin, is facing two counts of misdemeanor battery for allegedly beating his new bride on their wedding night.

According to the criminal complaint, Schuette and his new wife were married on Saturday. Their reception was held at the Breaking Bread Banquet in Sheboygan.

After the couple got to their hotel room, the groom wanted to cuddle with his new wife, but she refused because he was drunk.

Police were called to the hotel about 1:00 a.m., where the bride was assaulted.

The bride told police that she and her newlywed husband had been drinking and refused to drive. Schuette, who was “very intoxicated,” refused to get a ride and instead went to the hotel.

According to the police report, once at the hotel, Schuette tried to “get snuggly” with the bride. She refused and told him that he “ruined her wedding night.” That is when the groom snapped.

Schuette then punched the woman at least three times with a closed fist in the face. The bride ran to the bathroom and locked herself inside.

After some time, the bride left the bathroom and saw that Schuette was laying in bed. She thought he had fallen asleep and got into bed.

However, the woman said that when she got into the bed Schuette began touching her, and when she would not allow it, he punched her in the eye.

The woman ran to the bathroom and called her mother to pick her up. “During this time, the defendant threw all the bride’s belongings into the hallway and left the hotel room,” according to police.

When officers arrived they found the bride’s right eye black and blue and swollen.

After the groom was arrested, he told police that his new wife slapped him first. He told officers that “he accidentally hit her eye with his elbow when he was trying to block her from slapping him again.
