A couple was arrested on charges of abandonment of a corpse after allegedly taking a selfie with a dead man, who died of a drug overdose, police in Missouri said.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said that they arrested 24-year-old Chelsie Berry, and 26-year-old Jared Prier, after being accused of posing for a selfie with the body of 30-year-old Dennis “Nathan” Meyer.
Both suspects were charged with voluntary manslaughter and abandonment of a corpse.
The couple was arrested on Wednesday, after an informant alerted police to Facebook photos, showing Prier and Berry posing with the body.
Berry told police that she was with Meyer, when he injected himself with a painkiller. After a few minutes, Meyer began acting strange, and he later fainted.
Berry told police that she was afraid to call an ambulance because the three were high on methamphetamine and Xanax. Instead of getting help, the couple posed for a selfie with Meyer before moving his body away from the scene.
Meyer was dumped on a deserted road. Prier and Berry were booked into the Newton County Jail, and are being held on $50,000 bail.
