A young man is dead after being electrocuted while urinating on a lamppost during a festival, rescue workers in Spain said.
The 18-year-old man died early Sunday morning, during the annual festival held in Bunyola.
After the incident, which occurred at 12:40 a.m., officials suspended the event. According to witnesses at the scene, the young man was electrocuted while leaning on the lamppost and urinating.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene, performed CPR, but all efforts to save the young man’s life failed. Police launched an investigation into the incident.
In March, a father of two died after suffering an electric shock while urinating on the street, police in South Africa said. The 22-year-old from Zimbabwe, Mlaleli Nets, was killed on Wednesday, in Zandspruit, Johannesburg.
Another man from Zimbabwe, said that Neta was electrocuted while relieving himself in the woods. He did not see exposed electrical wires laying on the ground where he was urinating.
Phindani Moyo, 45, who goes to the same church as Nets, said that when it rains, the communal bathrooms are wet, dirty and uncomfortable to use, therefore, people go to the bushes to relieve themselves.
“The death of Mlaleli Nets is very painful to us. He was a good man, who was very respectful,” Darlington Phiri, 49, said. The victim is survived by two daughters, ages 2 and 7 months.
Police said that an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
