(Scroll down for video) A family is angry and distraught over the death of their beloved father and husband.
Police were called to save a man, but killed him instead.
61-year-old John Rogers of New Mexico, was at his home when he apparently tried to commit suicide. Police rushed to the home and confronted Rogers without speaking to his family to assess the situation.
Police said that they found Rogers with a deadly weapon. Rogers was shot by police and was pronounced dead after he was taken to the hospital.
A police spokesman said that the officers were not injured. The two officers, who were involved in the shooting, have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Bloomfield Police Chief Randy Foster said that he brought in an outside agency to provide a thorough and unbiased investigation.
Rogers left behind his wife Billie, with whom he was married for 40 years, four children, 18 grandchildren, a sister, three brothers, many nieces and nephews. May he rest in peace.
