(Scroll down for video) A man who was wanted by police, stopped to get a drink of water and to pat a stranger’s cats.
Police in Boca Raton, said that the 21-year-old man led them on a chase and then abruptly stopped to ask a stranger for water. He also played with her cats.
Authorities said that Daniel Pinedo-Velapatino, had stolen thousands of dollars in cash from his friend after a night of drug use.
He then drove off while high on drugs. Velapatino allegedly crashed into several vehicles, including a police cruiser and a Lexus. He also hit a fire hydrant before ditching the car.
He ran to the home of Candice Noona. He went to the back of her home, opened her sliding door and asked for a glass of water.
Velapatino lied to the woman, saying that he was cutting the grass for her neighbor and he was thirsty. Meanwhile, officers chased Velapatino and searched for the man.
When Noonan returned with a bottle of water, she found Velapatino inside her home, laying on the floor petting her cats, which she described as “very strange.”
When Noonan’s husband began to question Velapatino, he fled the premises. Noonan said that they realized what had happened when they noticed police cars passing outside.
The suspect then tried to escape by swimming across the nearby Intracoastal Waterway, but was caught by a police boat.
Velapatino allegedly told police that he stole the money to repay his mother, and claimed he owes her $2,000.
