A woman was arrested, charged and convicted of performing an illegal abortion after giving her teen daughter, who didn’t want to have a baby, abortion pills, prosecutors in Pennsylvania said.

Now, a judge sentenced 39-year-old Jennifer Ann Whalen of Washingtonville, to a maximum of 18 months in prison for obtaining the abortion pills online and providing them to her teenage daughter to terminate her pregnancy.

The sentence was part of a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors.

Whalen, a single mother who works at a nursing home, was also fined $1,000 and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service after her release.

She could have been sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison and a fine of $15,000.

Whalen told police that there was no available local clinic for an abortion, and her daughter did not have health insurance to cover an abortion at a hospital.

Her daughter suffered severe cramping and bleeding after taking the pills, and Whalen took her to a hospital near her home for treatment.
