(Scroll down for video) The son of a police officer took his life with his father’s unsecured gun.
The 11-year-old boy died in what authorities consider suicide after firing a single bullet into his head.
Samuel Epps of San Tan Valley, Arizona, was at home with his father and three siblings when they got into an argument over his chores.
The boy ran into his parents’ room and locked himself inside. Moments later, he took his father’s gun and shot himself.
Investigators believe that Samuel used his father’s personal weapon, but not his father’s service weapon.
It is still not clear exactly how he got the gun, but investigators said that it was not in a safe and was not locked away.
When medical personnel arrived on the scene, Samuel was still breathing and had a pulse, but was pronounced dead two hours later, after being flown to Maricopa Medical Center.
