A depressed middle-aged woman committed suicide by jumping into a crocodile enclosure at a zoo, rescue workers in Thailand said.
According to the police investigation, the 65-year-old woman of Bangkok, jumped into the crocodile pit at the Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm & Zoo.
Wanpen Inyai left her home on Friday morning, and disappeared without a trace. Her family members, who tried to contact her, called police.
She was not found until after jumping into the pit containing more than 1,000 crocodiles.
The police were unable to identify the deceased, but the woman’s health care card was found floating on the surface of the water.
Witnesses saw the woman intentionally jumping into the pond, and images from a security camera showed that she left her shoes on a walkway before jumping.
The owner of the zoo said that unfortunately, employees were unable to rescue the woman.
A sister of the woman said that said she had been depressed and did not talk to anyone for several days before she disappeared.
