32 people were arrested on charges of assault after allegedly throwing rocks at police officer during a riot in Jerusalem, Israel Police said.

The Jerusalem Police Department said that the 32 suspects were detained in the East Jerusalem neighborhood during rioting early Wednesday morning.

Five of the suspect are children aged between 12 to 13 from the Silwan neighborhood. The children were questioned for several hours and then released to the custody of their parents.

Eight children are between 14 and 18 years old. They were brought before the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court for bail hearings.

Children under 12 years old cannot be prosecuted in the country. All suspects were accused of throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at police officers.

“The police will detain anyone involved with disturbing order in the city, and will act to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law,” Israel Police said in a statement.
