(Scroll down for video) A man tried to use young children to help him shoplift.
However, he fled the store and left the children behind.
Two men and the children’s mother were arrested after the incident at a Home Depot in Harris County, Texas.
According to court documents, 26-year-old Brandon Garner and Tony Segura, 37, were in the store with two children, ages 8 and 6.
Police said that Segura told one of the children to take the security labels off from two sets of drills valued at over $800, and then leave the store.
However, employees saw what happened and confronted the men at the door. Garner ran to the parking lot, got into his car and left without the children.
The police finally caught him in a nearby parking lot, and he was arrested.
Segura was arrested at the store, and the staff of Child Protective Services were called to help the children whose mother is Garner’s girlfriend.
When the children’s mother, Brandalyn Rodriguez, 26, arrived at the scene she allegedly argued with officers over Garner’s arrest and tried to speak to him several times while he was under arrest.
“She did not care about her children,” said a prosecutor. “She was only worried about Mr. Garner.”
Rodriguez was also arrested and was charged with interfering with the duties of public officials. Garner was charged with abandoning a child, while Seguro faces theft charges.
