(Scroll down for video) The owner of a hostel was arrested after police found videos, showing how he sexually abused unconscious men.
56-year-old Michael Harris of New Zealand, faces dozens of charges for drugging male backpackers and sexually assaulting then while recording the acts.
Authorities said that Harris abused about 16 male customers over a period of 30 months. The men were between 18 and 25 years old.
Most of the men were from abroad and there could be more victims. Police want to talk to men who stayed at the Mainstreet Lodge in Kaitaia, over the past few years.
“These victims are unlikely to know that something has happened to them, although they may have suspicions,” Detective Senior Sergeant Rhys Johnson said.
Police said that Harris would allow some travelers to stay in the owner’s residence. They believe that the people who slept there, are probably among those assaulted.
Harris remained in custody on 39 counts, including indecent assault, aggravated wounding, making of intimate visual recordings and possession of intimate visual recordings.
