A woman was jailed after a police officer mistook spaghetti sauce on her spoon for drugs, prosecutors in Georgia said.
23-year-old Ashley Gabrielle Huff of Commerce, was unable to post bond after being charged with possession of methamphetamine.
She was ready to plead guilty to felony drug charges in exchange for her freedom. However, the charges were dismissed after lab tests confirmed that the substance on her spoon was spaghetti sauce.
The incident began when Huff was arrested several months ago, by the Gainesville Police Department. She was a passenger in a car and had a spoon.
The officer thought that there was some residue on it. She has maintained from the beginning that the residue was not drugs, but no one believed her.
“The crime lab report showed that the spoon had no controlled substances,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
