(Scroll down for video) A teenager was killed and three of his friends were arrested in a prank gone horribly wrong.

The incident took place in Ohio, when a group of teens decided to play a scary prank on their sleeping friend.

17-year-old Reb Barbee of Prairie Township, Franklin County, wore a clown mask when he broke into his friend’s bedroom.

The victim’s mother, Heather Tackett, 37, who heard noise in her son’s room, grabbed a gun and went to investigate.

In the room, she saw a masked man standing over her sleeping son with a knife in his hand.

Scared for her son’s safety, Tackett shot the teen once, only to discover later that the victim had been her son’s childhood friend.

Barbee managed to flee from the home and was taken to his house by his three friends, who were accomplices to the prank.

Sadly, the friends, who saw Barbee bleeding, did not call for help until one hour after he was shot. By then it was too late. Barbee was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police have arrested the three friends, who were identified as Adam Pickens, 18, Tyler Balzer and Brandon Hamilton, both 17, on charges of delinquency counts of murder and complicity to aggravated burglary.

Pickens remains in the Franklin County Jail on $1 million bond. Hamilton and Blazer are being held in juvenile detention.
