A couple’s dream wedding night turned into a nightmare when they were arrested and placed in adjoining jail cells.
30-year-old Kirsty Bigland of the United Kingdom, was still in her white gown when she was arrested.
The bride and groom reportedly attempted to get to their hotel room at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Manchester, after having their wedding at the hotel’s wedding hall.
The mother of four children and her husband Nick, 25, tried to enter their hotel room, but their keys did not work as their credit card was declined.
The frustrated couple allegedly got into a shouting match with hotel staff. Things got heated when Mrs. Bigland allegedly began cursing and spitting at staff members.
During their attempts to restrain her, the bride allegedly used racist remarks against security personnel. She was also accused of hitting a staff member, and spitting on his shirt and jacket, while screaming and cursing.
Police were called and the couple was arrested after
Mr. Ahmed, who was dealing with the couple, took Bigland’s swearing as a reference to the ethnic origin of himself and his colleagues. He refused to allow the couple to stay in the hotel because of their behavior.
The couple is facing charges of racially aggravated common assault and a racially aggravated public order offense.
