(Scroll down for video) A mother told a 14-year-old child to put her baby in the car trunk after she realized that the police are trying to pull her over, police in Florida said.

Broward County Police said that when officers tried to pull over Breona Watkins for a broken headlight, she continued to drive for about a quarter mile.

The 19-year-old woman did not want to get a ticket for not having the baby in a baby car seat, so she told the 14-year-old passenger to hide the baby in the trunk before stopping.

Watkins was arrested at the scene for driving without a license. After she was placed in the police car, officers heard a baby crying in the car.

Officers opened the trunk and found the baby.

There was a used gas can in the trunk of the car, as well as a used fuel pump, plastic bags and many other hazardous materials that could have easily injured or killed the baby.

Watkins’ mother told a court that her daughter is a good mother who sometimes makes mistakes.

Watkins was charged with child abuse without great bodily harm, resisting arrest without violence and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

The baby was handed over to the custody of the Department of Children and Families. Watkins was booked into jail and is being held on $7,000 bond.
