(Scroll down for video) A cancer doctor was arrested, charged and convicted of aggravated assault after poisoning her former lover because he dumped her for another woman, prosecutors in Texas said.

Now, a jury has sentenced her to 10 years in prison.

43-year-old Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo poisoned her colleague, who was also her lover, by spiking his coffee with a chemical found in antifreeze.

Gonzalez-Angulo, a specialist in treating breast cancer in Houston, had been involved in a sexual relationship with Dr. George Blumenschein.

Gonzalez-Angulo poisoned Blumenschein with ethylene glycol after he dumped her in favor of Evette Toney, his longtime live-in girlfriend with whom he was trying to start a family.

Blumenschein survived the poisoning. A jury convicted Gonzalez-Angulo of aggravated assault.

Blumenschein testified last week, that his life expectancy was shortened by the poisoning incident, and now has only 40 percent of his kidney function.

Gonzalez-Angulo’s defense attorney urged the jury to be lenient by taking into account the work that she had done as a cancer doctor.
