(Scroll down for video) A popular synagogue in Philadelphia, was left without a cantor after he was murdered at his home, police in Pennsylvania said.
The Philadelphia Police Department said that the incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, inside the home on the 200 block of Phil Ellena Street.
33-year-old Johnathan Williams broke into the home of 54-year-old Ronald Fischman, through a basement window. Williams went to an upstairs bedroom, where he saw Fischman, who confronted him.
Williams stabbed Fischman in the neck and back, and then ran off. The victim was rushed to Einstein Medical Center and he died shortly thereafter.
Police arrested Williams when he returned to the scene. He was charged with murder, robbery and related offenses.
Fischman was a beloved member of the Mishkan Shalom Synagogue in Roxborough, where he had blown the shofar and read from the Torah during the Jewish New Year holiday.
