(Scroll down for video) A crematorium was put out of business after workers tried to burn an obese body, firefighters in Virginia said.
Investigators of the Henrico Fire Department said that the fire started when the oven used to cremate the body of the 500 pound man became too hot.
Jerry Hendrix, the manager at Southside Cremation located on the 1600 block of Crump Street, said that the fire was the result of the large body size.
Additional measures are usually taken to ensure the cremation process goes smoothly when handling obese bodies. Once the firefighters brought the fire under control, the 500-pound body was able to be fully processed.
The family members of the deceased were not present at the time of the incident. There were 3 other bodies at the scene of the cremation site at the time of the fire, but none of those were damaged.
