(Scroll down for video) A teenager was arrested and charged with sexual assault after attacking a man on the streets of Tennessee.

17-year-old Diontae Smartt of Chattanooga, was emotional and cried during his hearing in juvenile court.

According to the affidavit filed in juvenile court, the 68-year-old victim was rapped and received serious bodily injuries including blunt force trauma injuries to the head, in the assault that occurred near 1131 W. Mississippi Avenue.

The juvenile court administrator Sam Mairs, said that Smartt gave a “verbal and written confession” to the sexual assault.

However, his family said that Smartt, who has a learning disability, was coerced by police into confessing.

The Chattanooga police spokesperson said that investigators followed state law and department protocol during the interview with Smartt, and said that the “parents of the suspects were present during the interview.”

Smartt’s mother said that she was at the police station, but she was not in the room when Smartt allegedly confessed.

A public defender was appointed to represent Smartt, who is accused of aggravated rape.

The prosecutor has filed a petition, asking the judge that Smartt be tried as an adult. The court ruled that Smartt will be held without bail, pending a decision on the transfer hearing.
