A nurse was arrested on charges of murder after allegedly killing at least 38 of her patients, police in Italy said.
Lugo Police said that 42-year-old Daniela Poggiali, was arrested over the weekend, after 78-year-old Rosa Calderoni, died from an injection of potassium.
Calderoni had been hospitalized with an illness before dying unexpectedly. Tests showed that she died with a high amount of potassium in her bloodstream, which can lead to cardiac arrest.
Her death triggered an investigation, and detectives discovered that another 38 patients had died mysteriously while Poggiali was on duty.
A colleague of Poggiali, once complained that she gave powerful laxatives to patients at the end of her shift to make the job more difficult for nurses who work after her.
During questioning, Poggiali told investigators that those patients and family members annoyed her.
