(Scroll down for video) Seems like New York police officers don’t like to be the butt of a joke.

Comedian Adam Newman was doing a stand-up show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Chelsea, New York City, when four police officers marched in and ordered him to shut up.

The comic, who is used to being heckled by the crowd, was at a loss for words when a police officer began to heckle him.

Four police officers interrupted Newman’s set with flashlights to arrest a homeless man, who was allegedly seen masturbating in the audience.

Newman, 31, was in middle of telling a joke about shampoo when the officers arrived. He then attempted to continue the show while using the situation and the officers as part of his jokes.

“Guys, this is part of the act, I do this every show,” Newman joked. He then asked someone take a photo of himself with the officers in the background and joked about putting it on Twitter.

The officers were not amused and they seemed oblivious to the comedy show. Newman looked surprised when an officer asked: “What’s going on.”

Newman stammered in disbelief: “I have no idea what’s happening could you not have waited until the end of my show?”

“Obviously not. Honestly, shut the f*** up,” another officer said. “Be quiet,” the officer added.

“Who? Me?” Newman asked in disbelief.

“Oooh. Are you yelling at me?” The surprised comedian asked.

“Shut your mouth, all right?” The officer snapped.

At this point, Newman apologized and waited for the officers to leave.
Newman posted the video of the incident to his YouTube account.

“I’ve dealt with hecklers before and I can put a heckler in place,” he said. However, he realized that the NYPD officers were not in the mood for jokes or laughs so he apologized and waited for them to leave.
