(Scroll down for video) A family is shocked over the sudden death of their two loved ones.
A woman and her granddaughter of Florida, have drowned after they went to a lake to feed the ducks.
Relatives suspect that four-year-old Leila Fleming, fell into the Silver Lake, located inside a gated community in Miramar.
Zulema Laura Fleming, 59, then jumped into the water to rescue the girl, but neither the grandmother nor the girl knew how to swim and they both drowned.
Fleming had taken her granddaughter to the water around 7:00 p.m., but when they failed to return home, the family called police to report the two missing.
Their bodies were recovered from the water shortly before midnight. Autopsies, which were carried out on Monday, showed that they both drowned, Miramar Police spokesperson Tania Rues said.
The girl lived in her grandparents’ home along with her father, who had custody of her. Leila’s mother, 23-year-old Ashli Rodriguez, did not live at the home.
Miramar Police said that there were no witnesses to the drowning, but they do not believe any foul play was involved. The investigation is ongoing.
