(Scroll down for video) A teenager is facing the death penalty for killing his entire family for their money.

19-year-old Alan Hruby of Oklahoma, allegedly told police that he killed his family in order to be the “sole heir” of the family fortune.

The Hruby family ran a newspaper in rural Oklahoma. They had done well for themselves and gave their kids a good life.

However, financial difficulties led them to start cutting back. Their eldest son Alan, did not like the idea of being restricted in his spending.

He shot and killed his father, John Hruby, 50, his mother, Tinker, 48, and his teenage sister, Katherine. They were found dead by their maid in their home.

After killing his family, the teen spent the weekend in a five stars hotel. He was arrested, and he confessed to the crime.

Alan, a freshman at the University of Oklahoma, has been charged with three counts of murder with deliberate intent.

During the reading of formal charges, Alan cried as the judge ordered him to be held without bail.

Stephens County District Attorney Jason Hicks said that the teen did not seem remorseful, and cried “because he knows that his life is basically over.”

Hicks will decided whether the state will seek the death penalty in this case because it was a carefully calculated triple murder.

Alan was previously charged with credit card theft after using a family member’s card without permission. In that case he was sentenced to probation.

Now, he told police that he owed a loan shark about $3,000. Therefore, he wanted to inherit his family’s money to pay off his debt.
