Woman throws her baby at police officer after he found synthetic marijuana on her bed

A woman threw her baby at a police officer and ran into a bathroom in order to flush an illegal substance down the toilet, police in Missouri said.

Hannibal Police said that they arrested 29-year-old Amy M. Spegal on Tuesday, after the incident that occurred at 13A Shawnee Trail.

The incident began when police went to her house to arrest 33-year-old James Ivey, who was wanted on an arrest warrant. Spegal opened the front door and slammed it into the police officer after saying that Ivey was not at home.

Officer John Willis said that Spegal returned to the front door with her 11-month-old son. Spegal invited the officer into her house.

As Willis searched the house, he found a small bag of synthetic marijuana on her bed. Willis notified the woman that she was under arrest.

The woman threw the baby towards the officer and ran into the bathroom. Spegal pulled down her pants and flushed the toilet.

Police believe that she destroyed evidence. The baby was handed over to the Department of Social Services. If convicted, Spegal could face up to seven years in prison.
