(Scroll down for video) A family is shattered after their father’s shootout left two of his teenage children dead.
The father of Florida, fatally shot two of his children and seriously wounded a third child, authorities said.
52-year-old David Mohney, who moved his family to Port Orange about seven years ago so he could study at Palmer College of Chiropractic, shot and killed his two children.
The children were identified as 14-year-old Savanna and 11-year-old David. The father then turned the gun on himself in a tragic murder-suicide, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
His 9-year-old daughter Lauren, was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where she is said to be in critical but stable condition.
David had been fighting with his wife, Cynthia Mohney, who works as a nurse.
Cynthia, 48, fled to a neighbor’s house for safety and to call the police, saying that the couple had a fight that spiraled out of control and her husband turned violent.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene after receiving the call about 5:10 a.m.
Soon after, shots were heard from inside the house at 1927 Jackson Lane, according to a statement from police.
A few weeks before the murder-suicide, David filed for a protective order against his wife, who was violent towards him.
He was granted the protective order after a domestic violence incident between the couple. However, two weeks later, he withdrew the protective order and the couple filed for divorce.
