A police officer is dead after being beaten with an iron rod by a motorcyclist, police in Nigeria said.

The Lagos State Police said that Officer Joseph Ebosele, 35, died at a hospital as a result of being beaten with the iron rod.

The incident unfolded around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, when Ebosele stopped Bakare Lukman, for violating a traffic law that prohibits operating a commercial motorcycle after 10:00 p.m.

Ebosele seized the bike. Lukman became furious and attacked the officer with the iron bar.
