A woman was raped repeatedly after she told her boyfriend that she wanted to break up with him, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, a court has sentenced the man to 21 years in prison.

22-year-old Vaidotas Niedvaras was convicted of rape, digital penetration, false imprisonment and assault causing actual bodily harm.

The incident began when the 21-year-old victim began chatting with the defendant on a dating website.

However, later on in their relationship, she became uncomfortable because he unexpectedly showed up at her home and at work, and harassed her with text messages.

She broke things off, but agreed to let him into her home so that he can retrieve some items he left behind. Niedvaras arrived at the home in Peckham, just before midnight and made his way inside.

He tried three times to touch her wrist and when she resisted, he punched her in the face, grabbed a knife from the kitchen sink and held it to her throat, threatening to kill her if she screamed.

He forced the victim to her room, closed the door and twice raped her in an ordeal that lasted several hours. The defendant only left her home in the morning.

The victim went to work and told her colleagues what had happened. They alerted police.
