(Scroll down for video) A man lost his friend and partner in crime, and is now being charged with a murder he did not commit.

Ruben Lucero is accused of robbing a store in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which led to the death of his friend.

Police said that Ruben Lucero and Christopher Garza, both 20 years old, entered the Pajarito Store in the South Valley just before 7:00 p.m. with a pistol and a AR-15 rifle.

Deputies said that one of them threatened the clerk, who is the son of the owner. He handed them $100 and his watch, while the other robber forced three members of the family to get down on the ground including a child.

The clerk told deputies that after the robbers left, she went to lock the door and one of the robbers pointed a gun at her. That’s when the store clerk opened fire and shot at them.

Garza died and Lucero was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his arm.

Lucero is being charged for the death of his friend because deputies said that his actions led to the murder of his friend.

Lucero is also facing charges of robbery, aggravated assault and child abuse.

In a heartfelt plea on his Facebook page, Lucero is begging for forgiveness from his friend’s parents.

He wrote:

Dear Dolores and James, your son. One of my really good friends, who I loved like a brother, for that to happen in front of me him dying in my arms does a toll on me and how I feel on the inside. I know deep down inside I am truly sorry for what has happened, its gonna be on my conscious for a very long time. Wishing that I was at peace with him up in heaven, he is up in a better place. Seeing him lying there made me break down, really bad. I hope you guys find it in your hearts to forgive me for what has happened. Words can’t even explain how sorry I am, but just know that we made a really bad mistake and I was more concerned about Christopher’s life, than my own at the time. I really was… I cry every night, pray really hard, wishing that I can take this all back! Despite all the negativity and what everybody says we weren’t bad guys, and just know your son truly loved you!! I love you guys and along with Chris, I’ll be forever in your debt, I’m sorry once again….
Sincerely, Ruben.
