(Scroll down for video) Hundreds of cat lovers stormed a new cat cafe in California, that allows consumers to get their morning coffee while entertaining their cats.

The first cat cafe in the U.S., opened on Saturday in Oakland.

The Cat Town Cafe and Adoption Center allows people to buy a latte and get one hour of playtime with adoptable cats.

The owners of the cafe hope that this new business will help find homes for cats. In Japan, cat cafes are extremely popular, but here in the U.S., strict health codes have prevented such cafes from popping up.

Walk-ins are welcome at the Cat Town Cafe and Adoption Center, if space permits. In exchange for a $10 donation, you can make a reservation ahead of time.

“Cat Town is an independent, non-profit organization that operates through a partnership with Oakland Animal Services (OAS), and was founded by a core group of volunteers from OAS. Since our founding in 2011, we’ve rescued over 600 cats and kittens from the shelter. In addition to years of adoption counseling and shelter volunteering, we have experience fostering fearful cats and kittens, running mobile adoptions and organizing successful outreach campaigns,” the company wrote on its website.
