A dog stopped a bus driver from doing his regular route after hopping onto the bus and refusing to get off.

Police and firefighters were called on Friday, when the German Shepherd hopped on the bus in China, and refused to get off, sparking a six-hour standoff.

The bus driver, Su Wei, 39, was almost back at the bus depot when the dog got on board just as he let the last passenger off in Chongqing.

The dog entered the bus and laid down next to the driver, refusing to leave. At the bus depot, the driver tried to convince the dog to get out. However, his efforts were in vain as the dog was in between the front seat and the steering wheel. He had no choice but to call emergency services for help.

Both police and firefighters arrived at the scene and tried a number of tactics to remove the dog, including poking it with sticks, offering it food and talking to it nicely.

After a six-hour standoff, the dog was finally thirsty enough that it agreed to exit the bus, being lured with a cup of water.

Neither the dog nor the driver were hurt during the incident.
