A teenager was arrested after he was found in possession of many used women’s underwear, police in California said.
18-year-old Benjamin Hawkins was found with more than 500 pairs of panties, a spokesperson for the Petaluma Police Department said.
When police arrested Hawkins, he was riding a skateboard and was found with five pairs of recently stolen underwear hidden in his pants, said Sgt. Paul Gilman.
Police first began investigating Hawkins, after a neighbor reported that two of her handguns and some underwear had been stolen.
Another neighbor told police that Hawkins, had been carrying a gun case at the same time. When police came to his home, Hawkins allowed them to search his mother’s home, but not his bedroom.
They returned with a warrant to search his room and found the two stolen guns, a rifle, a shotgun, over 500 pairs of used women’s underwear and some jewelry.
After his arrested, women came forward and told police that when Hawkins visited their home some of their underwear went missing.
Investigators said that Hawkins, had stolen underwear from victims since he was 17 years old.
“What we’re seeing is a person with a fetish, but how he went about that fetish is against the law,” Gilman said.
Hawkins was charged as a juvenile. He now faces charges including trespassing and aggravated robbery. He is being held in the Sonoma County jail on $40,000 bail.
