A woman nearly died after a snake attacked while she was taking a shower in her home, police in Thailand said.

The Bangkok Police Department said that the woman was nearly killed by the python that emerged from her toilet on Tuesday night.

The incident began when 57-year-old Rampeung Onlamai, was taking her nightly shower at her home when the python came out of the toilet bowl and tried to drag the woman down the drain.

Rampeung said that the snake sunk its fangs into her right hand and then began to pull her toward the toilet.

Rampeung defended herself with a broom and called her daughter, who rushed to her rescue and pulled out the python’s head from her mother’s hand.

The python quickly fled into the toilet. Rampeung was admitted to a hospital where she needed 20 stitches to close her wound.

A police spokesperson said that an officer will live at the woman’s home until the snake emerges from the toilet and is captured.
