(Scroll down for video) A county commissioner was arrested on charges of arson after allegedly torching his own gas station, police in Missouri said.
Johnson County Commissioner Scott Sader has been charged with second-degree arson by a special prosecutor from the Prosecutor’s Office of Jackson County.
Sader is accused of trying to burn down his business, Scooter, located on highway 50 in Knob Noster. The incident began when a truck driver noticed flames coming from an air conditioning unit and called police.
The truck was parked in the parking lot of the gas station, and the driver saw a man close the business before leaving.
Surveillance video obtained from within the store showed Sader within the business and then closing the door behind him.
Fire investigators found multiple starting points to the fire and video showed Sader walking back to the area after leaving. Video surveillance did not show anyone else entering the business.
Sader denied the allegations and said that politics was behind the charge. If convicted on the charges, Sader will be forced to leave office.
