Several men were arrested on charges of murder after allegedly tying a witch to a broomstick and setting her on fire, police in Paraguay said.
Asuncion Police said that several man of Mbya Guarani, tied 45-year-old Adolfina Ocampos to the stick and shot arrows at her before burning her alive.
Ocampos was sentenced to death last week, by the head of the community in Tahehyi, which is located about 180 miles north of Asuncion.
So far, nine men including a 14-year-old boy, were charged with first degree murder in connection with the killing. The men admitted to burning the woman alive.
One of the leaders of the village said that his sister has been sick for over a year, and he blamed Ocampos of casting a spell on her.
She was banished from her village for a month, but when his sister did not get better, the villagers decided to torture and kill Ocampos.
The leader told investigators that he was not sorry for his actions.
