Police have launched a manhunt for a boy, who went missing from his home last week.
The 12-year-old boy of Shanghai, China, who had been missing for six days after running away from home, was finally found inside an Ikea in the Xuhui District.
The boy, Peng Yijian, said that he survived on free food from local supermarkets during his adventure in the city.
However, the food was not enough. The boy was taken to a hospital where he is receiving IV after being weakened by hunger, his mother Liu said.
Yijian, who is a seventh grade student at Shanghai Longyuan Middle School in Xuhui, was reported missing last Tuesday, after getting into a fight with his mother over homework.
According to his mother, Yijian had not done his math homework and was therefore sent home from school. When he arrived home, a fight broke out between the mother and her son, causing him to flee from his home.
Police asked the mother for a list of the boy’s favorite shops. She gave us eight or nine names including the Nanfang Shopping Mall, Caoxi Park, and IKEA.
After a thorough search of Ikea, during which the exits were blocked to make sure he does not escape, police found Yijian near an escalator.
He was reunited with his mother and is being treated at the hospital.
