(Scroll down for video) A man was jailed after he pleaded guilty to suffocating his baby in an attempt to kill him.
Dakota Eldridge of Tennessee, was 19 years old when his baby was born.
Eldridge, who was no longer together with the baby’s mother, was arrested for trying to smother his newborn son at the hospital.
Eldridge’s 12-week-old son Daniel, was taken to the Erlanger Children’s Hospital by ambulance after suffering from multiple ailments.
Hospital staff noticed that the baby’s heart rate had dropped dramatically on several occasions when Eldridge was around him.
Employees kept a close eye on the baby, and realized what the teenage father was doing. The hospital staff detained him and called police.
Eldridge confessed to the police that he had pinched the baby’s nose and covered his mouth several times to stop his breathing.
Eldridge has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. In a plea deal with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated child abuse and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
