A man was arrested on charges of assault after stabbing two women because they refused to clean up their dog feces, police in Connecticut said.

The Springfield Police Department said that the incident began with an argument between neighbors over dog poop on private property.

33-year-old Michael V. Valentin of 60 Belmont Avenue, was arrested soon after stabbing a 46-year-old mother and her 23-year-old daughter.

Detectives said that they also found a large kitchen knife that they believe was used in the attack. Both women were transferred to a local hospital and are said to be in stable condition.

Valentin had called the police to complain about his neighbors, who did not clean up after their dog before the attack. Valentin faces two counts each of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
