(Scroll down for video) Human rights organizations slammed a police department in Indonesia, for only allowing women who are virgins, on its force.
Young women who join the Jakarta Police, begin their careers with what is called the “two finger test” to assess whether they are virgins.
According to police guidelines, women on the force have to be single and virgin. Human Rights Watch said that the virginity tests leave young women feeling violated.
Several years ago, the chief of police announced that the invasive testing procedures would stop. However, a check on the police website reveals that the tests are still being conducted.
“In addition to medical and physical tests, women who want to be police officers must undergo virginity tests,” the police website states.
8 female police officers told volunteers of the Human Rights watch that they underwent virginity tests several months ago. An 18-year-old woman said that she only learned about the virginity test when she was about to begin the physical exam.
The women reported that they were completely stripped of their clothes for the virginity test.
