A couple was shocked to discover that a hotel charged $150 on their credit card because they posted a bad review on TripAdvisor.
Tony and Jan Jenkinson of the United Kingdom, were not impressed with the Broadway Hotel.
The couple of Whitehaven, wrote about their experience on TripAdvisor, only to be charged by the hotel an additional $150.
The hotel told them that its policy was to charge for bad reviews. Now, officials are investigating the incident as they believe that the hotel may have violated unfair trade practice regulations.
“Despite the fact that our customers love our hotel, your family and friends may not. For every bad review left on any web page, you will be charged a maximum of £100 per review,” the hotel’s policy reads.
The couple said that they chose the hotel because it had parking and paid just £36 ($56) for a double room. Tony Jenkinson, 63, said that they signed the hotel’s documents without reading the fine print.
