(Scroll down for video) A woman was arrested, charged and convicted of child abuse after being accused of waterboarding her children, prosecutors in Missouri said.
34-year-old Lakechia Schonta Stanley of Saint Louis, faced 34 charges after a librarian at her children’s school noticed injuries on her 10-year-old girl.
She has been sentenced to serve 78 years in prison. The investigation began when the 10-year-old girl had gone to school and complained of severe pain in her arm.
The girl revealed that her mother hit her with a baseball bat because she had not cleaned the kitchen fast enough. The girl told the librarian that her 8-year-old sister was also hit with a baseball bat because she had taken a long shower.
The 10-year-old girl was treated at a hospital, where it was determined that the blood supply to her arm was restricted.
The girls told investigators that they had been waterboarded, beaten with electric cables, forced into hot or freezing showers, and hit with a series of blunt objects.
The woman’s husband, 30-year-old Andrew Rui Stanley, pleaded guilty to 42 charges related to the abuse. He was sentenced to 160 years in prison.
