(Scroll down for video) Two men were arrested, charged and convicted of manslaughter after killing a woman because they were kicked out of a birthday party, prosecutors in New York said.
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said that the two men have been found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the killing of the 26-year-old woman, who was shot through a basement apartment door moments after the two men had been kicked out of the birthday party.
“What was supposed to be a festive occasion turned deadly instead. A jury has now found the two defendants guilty of manslaughter and they will face lengthy prison terms when sentenced,” Brown said.
Oneil Mairs, 27, of 178 Place in Jamaica, and Nicholas Allen, 25, of 212 Street in Queens Village, were convicted late Thursday.
A jury convicted both defendants of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment after deliberating for nearly two days following a three week long trial.
Both men face up to 15 years in prison.
According to the police investigation, during a house party on 119th Road in St. Albans, approximately 4:00 a.m., Mairs got into an argument with his girlfriend and slapped her.
Mairs and his friend Allen, were then asked to leave and had to be physically removed from the premises. The two defendants banged and pushed against the door they’d just exited, and the victim, Avalisa Morris, 26, placed her back against the door on the other side.
Moments later, gunfire erupted and two bullets went through the door. Morris was struck in the head and died.
