A basketball coach was arrested on charges of possessing child pornography after allegedly persuading boys to send him nude photos, prosecutors in New York said.
Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said that the suspect of Jamaica, Queens, who claimed to coach three basketball teams and regularly conducted basketball workouts with teenage boys, has been charged with possession of child pornography and other crimes after a 15-year-old boy he coached told his parents about his alleged video chats with the defendant and they contacted police.
“The defendant is accused of taking advantage of his position as a basketball coach and instructed a 15-year-old boy and others to engage in inappropriate activity. The results will no doubt emotionally scar the youngsters for the rest of their lives,” Brown said.
Robert Walker, 42, of 164 Street in Jamaica, was charged with use of a child in a sexual performance, first-degree
disseminating indecent material to minors, possessing a sexual performance by a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
If convicted, Walker faces up to 15 years in prison.
According to the police investigation, the defendant communicated with a 15-year-old boy on OoVoo, a video chat and instant messaging computer application, instructed him to strip naked and pose naked.
The defendant also persuaded the boy to pose in front of the camera and expose his private parts.
The defendant persuaded the teen to send him naked pictures of himself.
A search warrant executed on the defendant’s home computer found the video of the 15-year-old victim showing his private parts.
The defendant admitted to conducting workouts with teens under the age of 16, during which he would have them remove their clothes and take pictures and videos of the boys.
The defendant also stated that he had taken some videos of boys as young as 14, while they were pleasuring themselves.
