A nurse is under investigation after killing an elderly patient with a lethal dose of coffee, police in Brazil said.
Rio de Janeiro Police said that the student nurse accidentally injected coffee in the veins of her 80-year-old female patient.
Palmerina Pires Ribeiro died several hours after receiving the dose of coffee.
23-year-old Rejane Moreira Telles said that she had only three days of work experience at the clinic, when she messed up the administration of a drip into the patient.
Telles told investigators that she confused the coffee for blood as both items were next to each other in the refrigerator.
Telles, who has been charged with manslaughter along with two other nurses and another student, said she was not trained to perform such procedures.
Doctors said that the coffee went straight to the heart and lungs of the elderly woman, suffocating her.
