A young boy was determined to find the sweets that his father brought home from a store.

However, after he was unable to find the sweets he killed himself.

3-year-old Syavuya Mthi shot himself with his father’s gun after searching for the candy.

The child opened the closet in his parents’ room in search for the candy, but found a gun instead. He placed the gun barrel in his mouth and pulled the trigger.

The boy’s father, Vuyani Mthi, 43, of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, said that he believes the child thought it was a toy gun.

Vuyani said his son Syavuya, was very patient and determined. “I’ve lost a very active and intelligent child,” the broken-hearted father said.

Vuyani said that on Friday, he brought home sweets and cake. He gave some to his son, but then hid the rest because when he eats too much cake, the child becomes hyperactive.

On Monday morning, Vuyani went out shopping, and while he was away, he received a call that his son was dead.

Syavuya shot himself while his mother was in the kitchen preparing breakfast.

The child was found laying on his parents’ bed in a pool of blood. It was clear that he had gotten onto the bed, opened the closet and found the gun.

“I’m so sad. I did not know that bringing sweets home was going to cause so much pain,” Vuyani said.

Major Thulani Zwane said that the Mnambithi Police are investigating the incident.
