A man of Florida, threatened to kill his wife’s dog during a domestic dispute.

However, he fatally shot himself in the face during the argument with his wife in their Pinellas Park home.

Police responded just after 6:00 a.m., to reports of a shooting. The teenage caller told dispatchers that the man accidentally shot himself, according to Pinellas Park Police spokesman Sgt. Adam Geissenberger.

Geissenberger said that Dennis Emery, 57, was arguing with his wife and threatened to shoot one of her dogs. He pulled the revolver hammer back and pointed the weapon at the dog.

According to a neighbor, Emery’s wife owns 13 border collies, and the dogs’ constant barking caused problems between the couple.

“At some point, Emery released the hammer back to a safe position. He then pointed the gun at his face as he lowered the hammer, and the firearm discharged, striking him in the face,” said Geissenberger.

Officers who arrived at the home at 5271 87th Avenue N, are not sure whether the shooting was an accident or an intentional suicide.

Pinellas Park Police said that Emery, was no stranger to the police. He had 34 contacts in the past two years, including three separate arrests for domestic assault, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
