(Scroll down for video) A dog surprised its owners by giving birth to a giant litter of 19 puppies.

Brandon and Aimie Terry of Pennsylvania, took the Great Dane to a veterinarian for x-rays, and the doctor located 15 small bones in the pregnant dog named Snowy.

The couple said that they were “not ready” when Snowy gave birth to a staggering 19 puppies. Great Danes are known to have between seven and eleven dogs at once.

“It’s a shocker, but I’m glad that they’re all here and the kids are experiencing stuff,” Brandon said. “We are teaching the kids how to tend to animals,” Brandon added.

The couple of York County, said that the litter includes ten male and eight female puppies. Snowy is white with black ears, and 62 percent European Great Dane, while the father is a black American Great Dane.

The delivery of 19 puppies is rare, but it was still five less than the world record. The largest known litter of puppies is 24, born in 2004 to a Neapolitan mastiff in Cambridgeshire, England.
